First month in Scotland

Okay so the last month has been crazy hectic since we moved to Glasgow and it has been non stop, so I apologize for lack of posts... but we made it!!!

So far the journey has been amazing, bit of a culture shock for me but loved it none the less.

Anyway I'm going to use this post to point out the differences I've noticed between Scotland and Australia (mostly positive) since we landed here:

1. Australian winter and Scottish summer are the same thing. Well pretty much, but more windy.

2. So much indian food. Indian restaurants are everywhere! Im deffinitely not complaining, I can't get enough!

3. Clothes are cheap as chips! Scott and I discarded most of our wardrobes just to fit everything into our suitcases, so when I realised how cheap clothes are here I went a little crazy... lets just say my wardrobe is back to where it used to be haha

4. Galaxy chocolate. Australia, you need to join this band wagon!

5. Petrol is extausionant here! You pay £1.16 per litre which is about $2.32 per litre in Aus... just wow.

6. People take their dogs everywhere, even on the trains... awesome.

7. Everyone is willing to do anything to give you some help. Its amazing, I've felt nothing but welcome since being here.

8. Australian deffinitely wins in the house department though, most people live in flats with tiny rooms and no backyard yard.

Thats just a few observations I have made, like I said mostly positive haha

In other news Scott and I have booked a week trip to Paris in October,  I am so excited!! I even convinced him to go to Disneyland with me!

I will try and post some pictures up soon for you all to see.

Love Paige x

What I Am Looking Forward To In Scotland

So I’ve decided to make a little list of things that I am most looking forward to in Scotland, and also a list of things I’m not so sure about. Since Scott’s family is from the UK I like to think I have been well prepped for the transition, or so I like to tell myself. But it sounds like a completely different world from what I consider the norm. Here it is…

Guide To The Youth Mobility Visa

I know I had a thousand and one questions when applying for this visa, searching forums and blogs for as much information as I can, and it wasn’t all in one place. So I’m going to go through my experience below and what I provided to receive my Youth Mobility Visa (YMS). I applied for by visa in Brisbane.

First thing you need to do if you’re planning to apply for this visa is do go to the UK Gov Website and see if you are eligible (click here). Once you meet the eligibility requirements you need to see which documents you need to provide with your application, you can find these listed on the same link listed above. I have also listed them below.

How To Save Money For A Move Overseas

Saving enough money to move abroad is probably one of the biggest and most important parts you need to organise. Giving ourselves only 6 months to save was pretty silly for such a huge move, but we have budgeted every cent of our incomes and changed our lifestyles dramatically in order to make sure we can move to Scotland comfortably.

The Beginning

3 months. Only 3 months until the big move to Scotland! It felt like yesterday I was saying to my boyfriend “only 6 months to go!” and I was bursting with excitement. Now with only 3, the stress levels are definitely rising. Don’t get me wrong I am still SUPER excited, it’s just the reality of having so many things still to organise is overwhelming.
